There was an episode of House MD that I am glad to have been able to get the chance to watch again. One thing that shit episode illustrated was how much a persons health is judged simply by their weight. A patient weighing just over 600 pounds is admitted into the care of Dr. House and the first thing that is assumed is that all of the medical problems that the patient is suffering from must be related to his weight. The patient is brought into the care of Dr. House while the patient is still in a type of coma.
The point of mis-judging people based on weight is really brought home when Chase sees no reason to even treat the patient because of his assumptions that the problems are all brought on by himself.
To sum it up through the course of the episode it comes clear that while the patient may be of an unhealthy weight, it was not his weight that was causing th problems and had they not stopped focusing on the patients weight the patient could have easily died. I think this was a very powerful episode and brought to home allot of feelings that I think many people go through on a day to day basis.
The most important thing about any diet or any lifestyle is that you are happy and content with yourself, the patient of Dr. House was but it took a lot of trials and tribulations for the rest of his staff to become as comfortable with the patient’s weight as the patient had been.
