The main premise of the Atkins Diet is that you restrict your carbohydrate intake so your body undergoes ketosis. Ketosis may sound like a scary medical word but it really is not. If your body undergoes ketosis, your body will burn up stored fat, resulting in weight loss of around 1-2 pounds a week. This is the reason why the Atkins diet is also known as a ketogenic diet.

There are may free Atkins diet plan sites that you will see giving out free Atkins diet plan meals that you can use in starting this low-carb, high protein diet. Below is a free Atkins diet plan meals that you may be able to use while you are on the first stage of Atkins, Induction (a number of Atkins diet “gurus” are saying that you need not start on Induction in doing Atkins).

Breakfast

  • Turkey bacon and a slice of ham

Lunch

  • Grilled cheese burger and salad (romaine lettuce, olives, feta cheese dashed with vinaigrette)

Dinner

  • Roasted chicken smeared with lemon and salad (lettuce, cucumber, grated mozzarella, half a tomato dashed with vinaigrette)

Snacks

  • An ounce of Gouda cheese

This is just a sample Atkins meal plan based on my own preferences. Remember the basic premise when you are starting your Atkins is that you have to say no to carbohydrates so whatever is in your house that has buck loads of carbs in it, best to give it to charity for now.

The best way to avoid temptation during your starting phase is to make sure you have no way of accessing these no-no foods.
