Here’s what it takes to make the French onion soup:
• Onions – 2
• Chicken broth – 3 cans
• Butter without salt – 3 tablespoons
• Grated country cheese – ½ pound
• White wine – ½ cup
• Bread – 4 slices
• Salt, pepper as desired
The beauty of the soup lies in the finesse you cut your onions in. Make sure you cut them nice and long and thin – that way they get roasted nice and evenly. The bread that you are using will be cut into smaller pieces, crusted and toasted well, that they are nice and crispy. First take a large pan and melt the butter. Once the butter is all melted, you can add the finely cut onions and cook them for about half hour.
These onions should turn a rich golden brown. They should neither be too soft nor too roasted. They should be just done. Now is the time to add the white wine and cook the onions for about three to five minutes. By now, the onions should have become half. Add the chicken broth now and bring this to a boil. After about fifteen to twenty minutes the soup is all done and you can garnish this will cheese and serve in attractive soup bowls.
